MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE guitarist FRANK IERO is standing side-of-stage watching Best Coast's set at the Auckland Big Day Out. He applauds at the end of every single song, squinting thoughtfully in appreciation of the band, with frontman GERARD WAY joining him for a few minutes before it's time for the pair to prepare for their own set on the festival's main stage. Likewise, their band-mate RAY TORO has also been taking advantage of the day's sights and sounds, being quick to tweet his appreciation of a fellow band on the tour: "Vaccines on at BDO. Sound great!"

Dear friends, what follows is a few weeks of our lives in digital form. These photos were taken between the days of January 17th 2012 and February 6th 2012, as we toured the great lands of New Zealand and Australia respectively. As brothers we roamed these grand terrains. Friends were made, enemies slain, pie faces devoured with a quickness and fury. We are better men because of these (mis)adventures, but i must warn you... some of these images cannot nor will not be unseen.

A few weeks ago we were given the opportunity to interview My Chemical Romance and, knowing how passionate you guys are (especially the MCRmy!), we wanted YOU to ask the questions.

So we put the call out over our Facebook and Twitter and, of course, we were absolutely inundated! After narrowing the questions down (with some help) we sent them to My Chemical Romance and eagerly awaited their reply.

What we were not expecting was this great video from Mikey, Ray and Frank!

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE commemorated their ten-year anniversary on September 11th last year, which was followed up by the announcement a couple of weeks later, that the band would finally be returning to New Zealand - for the first time in five years - as headliners on the 2012 BIG DAY OUT.

Bassist MIKEY WAY gave Coup De Main a call while doing some last-minute Christmas shopping in Los Angeles at the close of last year…

Whilst thousands of eager teenage fans coil round the interior of Glasgow SECC we are brought past the manic group that started the queue almost 48 hours previously, and into the empty Hall 4. Once we;ve passed through four different security points and up numerous hallways, we were seated in a small but homely room, sparsely lit and scented with several candles. After a momentary wait Gerard Way and his younger brother Mikey enter the room, emanating a calm cool despite outer appearances of nervousness. And after brief introductions our interview gets underway.

A bird's eye view of Wembley Arena taken late afternoon on Saturday 12th February would show a unified swarm of black flooding the venue's parameter. Fans of My Chemical Romance have long been hailed a passionate bunch - in 2008 the Daily Mail labelled them a suicide cult sparking an MCRmy protest outside their office gates, while last year NME writer Luke Lewis recieved a wealth of online hatred following his non-music centred (what a surprise) comments about the band.

Letting slip to a bunch of 'meet-and-greet' winners that we're here to interview their heroes prompts a hasty response, "what will you ask them?" - the very same question asked by their label before our interview time was confirmed. Four albums, sell-out tours and a music career in its tenth, successful year, MCR now sit at the centre of a huge operation. "We're here to chat to them about music. Their guitars. Their record collections."

A backstage maze leads to Mikey and Frank. Sat in a neat dressing room looking incredibly calm, we settle in to a chat about music - Mikey's new custom Epiphone, moments of clarity on stage, pretending to be Bruce Dickinson and their genuine appreciation for the most dedicated MCR followers...

Alt-rock superstars My Chemical Romance released their latest album in November, Conor O’Nolan talks to Mikey Way about their elaborate concept albums and ample side projects.

It’s been over four years since My Chemical Romance’s magnum opus, The Black Parade, was released upon the rapturous MCRmy (M-C-army) and the world as a whole to great hype and acclaim. It seemed for a few weeks in late 2006 that the band was at the centre of popular culture. Latest album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, although garnering critical praise has not the same mainstream reach, not that this phases the band and its bassist Mikey Way in any way.

“We try not to think too much about how the album will be perceived, we wanted to make the album we wanted to make, and if people liked it, that was awesome, that seems to be the way it worked out, which is great!”

When your gut says destroy the album you just finished and start over, you should listen. That’s what My Chemical Romance decided on Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (Reprise), the band’s fourth studio album and follow up to 2006’s critically acclaimed Black Parade.

After a grueling two-year Black Parade tour, My Chemical Romance realized that what they really missed was color. So in the 11th hour frontman Gerard Way, his brother, bassist Mikey Way, and guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro scrapped the album they mixed with producer Brendan O’Brien and ran with their instincts. They weren’t going to be the My Chemical Romance they had been. They would be the My Chemical Romance they had become. The band rejoined Black Parade producer Rob Cavallo and weeks later turned out an album they could stand by.

My Chemical Romance originally meant to released its fourth studio album over a year ago. The New Jersey band had written and recorded the disc but just before its release, called it off. No one really knew what was going on and the move left everyone wondering if MCR planned to release another album at all. Last month, however, MCR offered up a brand new record, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. It’s a rollicking collection of rock songs that not only open a whole new chapter in the band’s career but also reveal a universe the group has constructed around the songs. Bassist Mikey Way discusses how MCR’s false start led to this new album. He also talks about whether there’s a concept behind the tracks.

So I have to ask you, before the big explosion happened with the new album trailer, you guys hyped fans up with secret twitter accounts with different character names. Who was who, who thought of the idea, and were you guys entertained by all the theories the fans were coming up with?

It’s such a multi-layered album and project that it was tricky to think about how to present it and how people are going to see it for the first time. We wanted it to start very subtle; we did a couple of things where it pulled the carpet out from underneath people. It was all in fun and fans were really excited and we wanted to go about it in a way that we had never gone about it before. We really wanted to use every bit of different mediums to our advantage. This is really just a fantastic pop art project for all of us. Just from the very beginning, everything has to be done with very high standard of quality.
