“I wanted to give these songs their due”—Frank Iero chats with his vocal coach Deborah “Zuke” Smith
August 26, 2014 by Cassie Whitt

Prior to taking on the role of lead singer of Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration, Frank Iero says voice was something he'd only dabbled in, which is why it made sense for him to seek out his vocal coach Deborah "Zuke" Smith.

Epiphone Interview With Frank
Running Wild With Frank Iero: Frank romances a new groove

Over the past three years, Epiphone.com has had a running conversation with Frank Iero, inventor of the Phant-o-matic Wilshire and co-lead guitarist with pop sensation My Chemical Romance. When MCR broke up in early 2013, Frank granted us one of his first interviews and we've been along for the ride as he stepped back, re-grouped, and began making music again. Frank popped in to see us during NAMM and offered Epiphone and many of our friends around the world a sneak peak at his new album Stomachaches. And of course, we sat down with Frank before the show to talk shop about guitars and the mysterious ways of the music muse.

New Frank Interview
Exclusive: Frank Iero on life after My Chemical Romance, by Tom Bryant

FRANK IERO is exhausted: flat out, buried. He’s got deadlines he has no idea how to meet, commitments all over the place, and people everywhere he needs to talk to. He has a family too, kids to whom he wants to give his undivided attention and a wife he loves dearly. He’s got stuff going on all over the place.

My Chemical News Interview With Frank
Interview with Frank Iero

We got to interview Frank Iero about his upcoming solo record, his bands, and more. Check it out below:

Firstly I’d like to thank you for taking the time to do this. What records and books have you recently been consuming?

It is my pleasure, thank you for taking the time to write the questions. i apologize profusely for this taking so long to get done…however life kept getting in my way. Currently I am reading Morrissey’s autobiography and finishing up Death at Seaworld at the same time. Usually I try and finish one before I start another but I got too excited when the Morrissey book came in the mail. That book has the bleakest first couple of pages I have ever seen start a book. It’s pretty incredible. As far as records go Climax by Beast Milk is still in heavy rotation and Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me! might be my favorite record I’ve heard in the past like 5 or 10 years. it’s frightening how good that record is. It’s so fierce, in the best way possible it sounds like a band’s first record…and i guess in a way it is. I’ve been trying to think of another band that released a record like that in the middle of their career and i can’t think of another instance. For me a great record forces you go back through a bands back catalogue and rediscover things and fall in love all over again. TDB does that beautifully.

Interview with Frank
Frank Iero: ‘DIY is where the revolution begins’

Frank Iero has done a little bit of everything in the music industry. Perhaps best known as the rhythm guitarist for My Chemical Romance, he’s also fronted bands like LeATHERMOUTH and Death Spells, and worked on original material for soundtracks. Before all of that, he was a member of Pencey Prep, perhaps one of the paradigm examples of contemporary garage punk.

If there’s one thing Frank Iero doesn’t have on his hands right now, it’s time.

"It was my twin girls birthday yesterday," says the dad of three, picking up the phone from his home in New Jersey. "The girls just turned three, so they’re getting to that age where they actually know the party is for them, and they take advantage of running around and eating their body weight in cake. It’s like an animal house here."

Frank on Going Off Track
June 13, 2013

This week the Going Off Track crew take it on the road… well, down the road to Brooklyn’s Union Hall for our second live podcast event. Going Off Track once again gets out of the studio and does their thing in front of a live audience, joined by the hilarious Chris Gethard, the lovely Jenny Owen Youngs, our friend Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance, Leathermouth and Death Spells) and Lyle Preslar from a little group called Minor Threat. Listen as we talk comics, pills, poop, and the fundamentals of a wound vacuum. Oh yeah, as bonus both Jenny and Frank perform in this intimate, stripped-down setting.

The End
Interview: Jason Pettigrew

Way before My Chemical Romance quietly adjourned in late March, Guitarist Frank Iero and keyboardist James Dewees were already concocting abrasive electronic music under the name DEATH SPELLS. Free from obligation, Iero now finds himself in the driver's seat with equal parts excitement, confidence and abject terror.

Frank Interview With Epiphone
Frank Iero - The Interview
10.01.2012

My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero is not only one of our signature artists but he's also one of our favorite interviewees. Frank loves to talk about guitars and music and his enthusiasm for his craft is always abundantly clear. The Epiphone Frank Iero Phant-o-matic was released last year to great reviews. Frank and his mates from MCR have been hard at work in their studio in Los Angeles on a new album for 2013.

My Chemical Romance also recently announced that starting in October, the band plans to release 2 un-heard songs every month through March, 2013. The tracks were recorded just prior to the release of their last album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and are known among hardcore MCR fans as the Conventional Weapons sessions. "We hope you enjoy these time capsules, and that they may shed a little more light on how and where Danger Days came from, and maybe even where the future of MCR might be heading. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...and now it is finally time to lift the veil on Conventional Weapons," Frank announced on the official website. Epiphone caught up with Frank to get the full scoop on what he's been up to.

New Frank Interview
Flavor Of The Bleak: A brief Q&A with My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero
October 1, 2012 by Jason Pettigrew

Frank Iero is a huge fan of film director Tim Burton, so you can only imagine how ridiculously stoked the My Chemical Romance guitarist was when he was asked to contribute to the soundtrack-companion album for the remake of Burton’s first film, Frankenweenie. Iero’s track, “This Song Is A Curse,” feels like a collision of film composer maestro Danny Elfman’s aesthetics with Suicidal Tendencies’ bona fide punk classic “Institutionalized.” In June, Iero corralled MCR auxiliary players Jarrod Alexander (drums) and James Dewees (keyboards), producer/engineer Doug McKean and MCR guitarist Ray Toro (as co-producer) to record the song which appears on the iTunes edition of Frankenweenie Unleashed! (Music Inspired By The Motion Picture).

Jason Pettigrew caught up with Iero to discuss the roots of the project, the pursuit of new avenues and the dish on the new MCR album. (Spoiler alert: Iero knows how it will turn out as much as you know exactly what’s going to happen to you on, say, October 17. Is that arbitrary enough for you?)

Interview With Frank In The Aquarian
Interview with My Chemical Romance: “It’s Not Someone Else’s Fest. It’s Ours.”
by The Aquarian Weekly, May 15, 2012

Plucked from the midst of recording their next album, New Jersey’s own My Chemical Romance were announced last week as being the last-minute replacement for pop-punk forebears Blink-182 at this year’s Bamboozle. The two bands toured together last year, and as Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker was reportedly admitted for an emergency tonsillectomy (he’ll get ice cream!), My Chem seemed the most natural fit. In the 10 years that this fest has been happening, they’ve played 30 times. We don’t even know how it happened, but that’s 100 percent true.

When we sent guitarist Frank Iero the questions for this email interview, he and the rest of the band were holed up in the studio in Los Angeles, working once more with Doug McKean on a new batch of songs. Iero was tight-lipped on the particulars of the material—as you’ll see—but managed to reveal that it’ll be drummer Jarrod Alexander playing on the album and that the band is looking forward to being back in what they (no doubt lovingly) refer to as “the NJ.”
