Limited Edition Photo Sets 1 and 2
posted by Frank on Apr 6, 2010 05:45pm
Hello Friends,
It's time to unveil the first 2 installments of our limited edition photo set. My intention with these prints is to allow you to own a small portal into the creative life of the band over the past year.
From my eyes to yours, moments you may hear on your stereo later this year but would otherwise have never been witnessed. It's an experiment in slowing down the speed of sound, allowing you to view the action months before hearing the reaction, and time to imagine what these images will sound like. I hope you enjoy viewing these memories half as much as we did making them.

Print #1 is entitled "vocalocity", it is an image of Gerard taken in the spring of this year laying down vocal tracks in Los Angeles. There is something magical that happens when Gerard enters a vocal booth, some of my favorite images I've ever captured are of him doing just this. He has the rare ability to convey emotion, ideas, and movement through his voice and It happens to please the ears quite a bit...he sings well...get it?
Print #2, "timing is everything". This image is of my favorite guitar player, Ray Toro, laying down tracks in Los Angeles around thewinter of '09. The amount of passion and intensity Ray puts into every note he plays is matched only by his level of skill. He makesengineers duck and cover and guitar players weep with envy. In the real world he's a nice guy who likes gadgets, but when there's a guitar involved, Ray Toro is a god.
These photos are very limited and, in order to cut down on slimy Ebay-ers, will only 1 of each print will be available per person. You can buy 1 of either print for $30 or bundle prints 1&2 for $50. If you are a registered mychemicalromance.com user you will be notified before anyone else and recieve first crack at obtaining these prints. (*hint hint if youre not, sign up now!)
Check back next month for installments 3 & 4.
Until then, peace, love, and anthropophobia. xofrank

Now I'm hopping I don't like any of the future pics! :P

Note about the price: it's actually very reasonable. If you've ever been to a gallery to purchase prints, they can easily go for at least twice what they're charging for these. And remember that you're not just paying for the print itself, but everything that goes into it, specifically the printing materials, which are not cheap, and the time, which Frank has put a lot into especially with the hand stamping and the signing. This isn't to say everyone has to like them and want to buy them, but the price is nowhere near out of line (and this is from someone who can't really afford them right now either). I'd honestly be surprised if there's any decent profit from them at all.
Apparently I have opinions.

At least since they're very limited (I think it'd been said it would be only 200 of each, right?), I guess only people who can really afford them will buy them. Having more of them would end up with lots of kids spending what they don't have in them -no matter whether they actually like them- just because Frank took them (we know it'd happen). So, the limited factor -besides adding value for collectors- will be also good in that sense.

THANK YOU! Man alive :/ I was expecting these to be a lot more but im happily surprised with the price. I guess if you haven't shopped around for prints/art before it might seem over the odds to some people. Now i sound like a condescending twat /o\

even if they are limited and you could maybe get more money out of them in the future....

Personally, I was dreading something a lot worse than fifty bucks for the pair. I've seen photography art lithographs go for two hundred plus, easy. Fifty bucks, though, I can fit that into a budget.
I actually kind of like the blurring effect in the previews--it goes well with the whole "speed of sound, slowed down" theme Frank seems to be developing. It's art, anyway, not a glamour shot; I already know what Gerard and Ray look like. [grins] I wonder that if these prints sell well, if maybe we'll get more art from other members of the band? Gerard, obviously, but who knows what kind of visual art interests Ray and Mikey might have.

And when will they stop asking how to buy them? Don't thay read the whole blog, which says a message will be sent to all members of the site? And we do get to SEE them for free! Also: "are they at least signed?" *rolls eyes*

I'll probably buy them if I can work my budget out, but I've been good lately so we'll see. I expect the next lot will be Frank and Mikey, so I want to get the whole collection if I can. But even if it's just shots of the studio, he's got a great eye for color and contrast, and some of those shots are just gorgeous as well. (I'm such a sucker for art. My walls are covered.) I really can't wait to see more.
