I don't have to appreciate it, actually. I understand it. There's a difference. I don't appreciate feeling belittled because I don't find violence and sexual assault funny.

I never said that. I know a lot of women who have been through similar experiences and have no problem laughing at such jokes, and I know a lot of women who haven't been through similar yet still find themselves just as outraged, or sometimes more, than I and some of the other commenters in this post have been.
but neither can you fully understand how this comment might be found harmless by me or anyone else.
Oh, no, actually I can understand, because before my assault I probably wouldn't have found this at all harmful. But therein lies the problem - just because you don't find something harmful doesn't mean it isn't.
