Living On The Railways...
Saturday April 30, 2011 | Posted by: Gerard

I think the word Glenn Beck was looking for was "subversion" not "propaganda", because I don't know what it would be considered propaganda for- truth? sentiment?
And I can't tell what he's angrier about- the fact that it's how I feel about the persistent sterilization of our culture or the fact that it's on network television for everyone to hear.
And railways? Is it 1863? Seen any children living on these lately instead of the internet?
I'm actually shocked that no actual fact-checking was done on the lyrics. I mean Fox is a major news channel, covering factual topics in an unbiased and intelligent-
oh wait-

To quote the man himself- "You don't have to live by the standards that society has set,"

I couldn't agree more.
g

PS- drawing is a depiction of an actual situation involving children, indeed "living on the railways" with one Jimmy "Backscratch Pete" Mulrooney, of Kansas City.

SOMEONE FINALLY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT "RAILWAYS"!!!!

EXCEPT... IN THE GLEE VERSION THEY SAY "RAILWAYS" AS WELL.... LOL.

DID NO ONE EVEN BOTHER TO GLANCE AT THE LYRIC BOOK OR CHECK AND MAKE SURE THEY WERE RIGHT?!

[identity profile] yekith.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'd never realised they'd said railways in the Glee version until someone pointed it out 'cause of this, so probably other people didn't either (including MCR? xD). Guess I just paid attention to how they sang it...and the flannel shirts. xD

But yeah, I can't understand how they didn't make sure they were using the right lyrics. It's as if they had gone with what they misheard.

[identity profile] kuriositet.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they googled it? The top three hits has "railways" in the lyrics.

I honestly had no idea what the real lyrics were. I can't hear what Gerard's singing half the time on this record. XD

[identity profile] yekith.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is...maybe some of the lyrics you now get by Googling it came from the Glee version!

But yeah, I can't understand half of what Gerard says either. The Glee people probably didn't check the actual booklet and "railways" is what they understood. :P

[identity profile] kuriositet.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's true.

And, webways isn't exactly a common word and if you don't know that he's singing that you might not hear it. I think it sounds kind of like a mix between the words, kind of like 'wailways' and before that it sounded like 'airways.' XD

Also, the thing is that with this album the booklet seems kind of incorrect in some places. I remember when it was first out and a lot of people were finding words that were really far from what we could hear. So I don't know how trustworthy the booklet even is. XD

[identity profile] yekith.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think I first heard "airways" too! Is "webways" even a real word? "wailways" would have been funnier, though.

And yep, true about the booklet. In Bulletproof Heart, it says "too much talking with a laser blade". Then Gerard mentioned in an interview how that song kinda started all the 'theme', and quoted the line "I do my talking with a laser beam" And I was: "wait...but you changed that". Then I listened again and realised it does say that, and the booklet is wrong.

[identity profile] kuriositet.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I know of. He probably invented it himself. XD

Yeah, and laserblade doesn't even make sense because of the rayguns, you know? If they had lightsabers or whatever it would be cool, though, because then they would have laserblades. *random wishful thinking*

[identity profile] yekith.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha yes! When I first read that I thought "WTF is a laser blade?" But you're right, it'd have to be lightsabers!

"I do my talking with a laser beam" sounds much cooler than what's on the booklet, though, so I'm glad the booklet's wrong.

[identity profile] kuriositet.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
You now, I just listened to the song and I think it sounds more like "And do our talking with a laser beam." It makes more sense coming after the line "Let's blow a hole in this town" too. It's just my opinion, though. I dunnow what other people think. XD

I feel vindicated that he addressed the incorrect lyric. It's been really bothering me! lol. And honestly, like he said, "railways" just doesn't make any sense!

[identity profile] shinetheway.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
So, yes, this. This this this. Once again, Geeway says the things that need to be said.

However, I must confess to endless amusement that he initially posted it with no drawing attached where he said the drawing would be, and had to go back and edit the post. And threw in a little extra quote at the end.

As someone who's been sneakily going back and fixing my typos without an "ETA" for ten years, I sympathize. :D

[identity profile] yekith.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure the drawing thing had been his mistake, 'cause I clicked on where it should be and opened it in another tab and could see it! Maybe it was a temporal site fuckery.

[identity profile] shinetheway.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I saw his tweet about five minutes after he made it--Aussie timezones do have their uses when tracking insomniac musicians. [grins] When I clicked it, the drawing was referenced but wasn't there, and the last bit with the quote and his "couldn't agree more" and his initial wasn't there either.

It just amused me to think that even Gerard makes impulse late-night blog posts that he has to go back to and edit. [grins]

[identity profile] silverhawthorn.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! This adds to my amusement, too -- giggling at the thought of him checking his post and going "dammit"! (I finally learned to preview everything -- EVERYTHING, I tell ya. But then, I have a typo fairy living on my shoulder.)

Ahahahaha, this should be framed and hung to a wall :D

They should sell numbered prints for the next railway disaster.

Welcome back to the blogosphere, Mr Way. We missed you.

If you can be ~sneeky and edit your posts for photos, Mr Way, how about you go back and fix that faulty paragraph spacing too? (/OCD writing-obsessed freak)

Great post. :D

I thought it was "living on the weird ways." And I definitely hear "do our talking with a laser blade."
