My Chemical Romance cancel their Soundwave appearance

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE regretfully announce that they have been forced to cancel all upcoming engagements, including their appearance at The Soundwave Festival in Australia.

Singer Gerard Way has been having severe vocal problems and is under doctor's advisement to forgo the tour in order to receive treatment for his throat and vocal chords and protect their long-term use.

“We are really sorry that we’ve had to cancel this tour, and apologise for any inconvenience it has caused,” says singer Way. “The last thing we ever want to do is cancel shows, but we’ll be back to Australia to make it up to the fans as soon as possible.”

Patrons holding tickets to the MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE show at the Big Top, Luna Park on Thu 25 Feb are advised to contact their point of purchase to arrange a full refund of their tickets.

I'm from Melbourne - I was planning to go with 3 mates, and we were only going to be up there for 13.5 hours. Enough to see the show, then catch the first flight home in time for Soundwave the next day. I don't know - if the airline is willing to shift our tickets, then I might try and postpone it and go up later to visit friends, or something. Turn it into a useful trip, y'know. But we got the cheap-ass flights, so it may be forfeit - I don't know. :-/

Where are you coming from? Brisbane, if your use of the word "down" in relation to Sydney is anything to go by... hope you enjoy Paramore. :)

dude, same here re: flights. I was going on Tiger one way and Jetstar the other, and, though I haven't checked with Tiger yet, Jetstar charge $50 plus the difference in price just to change the booking. It's looking very likely that I just lost out on $150 :/

As sad as this is for fans who were looking forward to seeing them... I'm glad they're being smart and taking the time for him to heal. It sucks, but I trust them when they say they'll make it up. And I'd really rather Gerard could sing in the long run, you know?

Also, I wonder if this has anything to do with the album release seemingly being pushed back. I mean, as far as we know it's basically finished. But when they release it they'll need to promote it, and they can't very well do that without Gerard.

Well fuck. Generally singers come out of this stuff just fine. Bert and Gabe did. It's something you always potentially deal with, as a professional singer. Get well soon, Gerard!

Lol, Gabe is the worst possible example you could have given. Bert on the other hand still has the voice of an angel~ and he does a fair bit of screaming to top. I *think* Gerard is going to be a-okay.

Well... gabe also did NOT follow doctor's orders at all. Cobra did an entire tour after Gabe had been told to go on full vocal rest.

So the fact that Gerard's actually taking the advice and canceling shows is a step in the right direction.

The thing is... as a recovering alcoholic and someone who is still clearly VERY addicted to nicotine... quitting smoking would not be that simple for him. He's obviously not doing it to be "sexy and cool" (and I'm sure you were be facetious when you said that, but other people might not pick up on that). Honestly, most recovering addicts keep one or more relatively "healthier" addictions, so it's not surprising at all that Gerard is still a smoker. And I"m positive he doesn't exactly like it. In LOTMS he mentions how much it sucks that he smokes cigarettes and drinks coffee all day... but I'd honestly rather him do that than be suicidal and puking his guts up in alleys outside of Killers shows, you know?

Also, smoking likely isn't what has done the most damage to his vocal chords. The strain and stress of performing is harder on them than the cigarette smoke.

Ahhh sorry to get all srs bsns on you guys... but it really is more complicated than him just needing to quit.

ive been very closely involved with addiction in my life and some people close to me have actually died of lung cancer related to smoking, so i totally get how hard it is to quit.
i'm just saying that smoking can obviously affect your throat and lung health, which are key body parts (for lack of a better word) when you are a singer and all that.
