Gerard in Rock Sound

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE
Interview: Andrew Kelham

Have you thought about how My Chemical Romance will reintroduce themselves to music fans in 2010? Do you ever wonder if your band is still needed in music?
Says Gerard Way (vocals):
"It's funny because the musical landscape is ever changing, but I think there's always a place for us and I think we're absolutely needed, especially now. I don't say that with any arrogance, I just really believe in my band and I believe that our band does what it does better than anybody else. There's no one that can do this like us. I feel a gap when we are gone and I hope people do too, if they don't then we're not doing our job properly. I think we're absolutely needed, but I'm glad we're coming back in 2010 because, as much as people need us, I think they needed a break from us too. I hope we got the balance of that right."

What have you tried to achieve with your forthcoming fourth album? How is it different from you past work?
"With this record we tried to ignore all the cosmetic nonsense and focus on becoming a truly great rock band. We felt that the world needed a really straight and pure rock band, you're hard pressed to find a lot of those these days. It was less about the theatricality and more about how we become the greatest young American rock band musically."

How are you adapting to fatherhood?
"It's great, it's amazing. Obviously we just wanted a healthy baby, but I was excited to have a girl as there are things I can see myself helping a girl with that I could never do with a guy, things like picking out clothes and stealing eyeliner, all that sort of stuff!"

Mod note: As happy and excited as we are that people are starting to discuss and converse in the comments, we'd like to remind everyone to play nicely.

I think Gerard just caused the reaction he was looking for.

You give him too much credit. Frankly, I don't think he's that smart.

You don't think everything is a ~master plan~???

(Anonymous) 2009-12-04 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! If Gerard were as brilliant as some people give him credit for, he would have managed to solve the energy crisis and ushered in World Peace by now.

I was being sarcastic. When I said he'd caused the reaction he was looking for, I meant that lots of people were talking about him.

And he is that smart. He just tends to ramble too much.

Seemed like a pretty succinct statement to me.

Seemed like the journalist cut off part of Gerard's rambling to makit it succint to me.

What gives you that impression? Gerard is perfectly capable of making a dumb joke or saying something stupid, he's a human. He doesn't have to have something manufactured against him to make that so.

[identity profile] bittersweetrick.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, hello there, exaggerated reaction. Calm down, yo. No one's questioning his capacity to make dumb jokes or whatever. What I'm saying is that he tends to ramble. And, as someone has already pointed out in this post, the odds of the interviewer asking only four questions and Gerard replying to them so succintly (is that correct? My spelling fails me) are somewhat slim.

In other words: there's the slight possibility the interviewer 'translated' Gerard's answer(s) here.

And since we're in the subject of jokes and all, how about you stop taking certain things so seriously?

Actually, interviewers often do these off the cuff one question/one answer interviews, it happens all the time. Then they pick and chose which question they want to include.

Why? I enjoy taking things seriously. Is it hurting you in some way? When something funny comes along for me to laugh at, why don't you let me know whether I'm laughing too hard or not hard enough.

Why thank you, that's a piece of information I didn't have. Thanks. (that comment is actually sarcasm free)

And, hurting me? HAHAAHAHA. Oh, yeah. Totes. Some nameless, faceless internet user who likes to things too seriously leaving me comments that will cause exactly zero impact in my life. Uh-huh. I'm deeply hurt. Not even sure I'll make it through the day.

When something funny comes along for me to laugh at, why don't you let me know whether I'm laughing too hard or not hard enough.

Deal! ;DDD

Sadly, you don't seem to realize that MY comment was NOT sarcasm free.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-04 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there some compulsion where you have to have the last word? Feel free, I'm done.

[identity profile] bittersweetrick.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was about to ask you the same.

/done.
