Gerard Way's Baby Tops Worst Name List

GERARD WAY's decision to call his daughter BANDIT has backfired - it has been voted the worst celebrity baby name of the year (09).
The My Chemical Romance rocker and his musician wife, Lindsey Ballato, welcomed little Bandit Lee in May (09), but the bizarre name has landed them top of an unflattering new poll.
Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden, who called their new son Sparrow, were placed second on the list, while British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and his daughter Petal Blossom Rainbow came third.
Charlie Sheen was also lambasted for calling one of his baby twins Bob, and Charlotte Church's son Dexter rounded out the top five in the survey, conducted by website Babynames.co.uk.

:PPPP

Edited to clarify: the whole tone of this "article" is pretty offensive, actually. "Gerard Way's decision backfired"? Ok, first of all, let's not forget that his wife (who, btw, can we agree to call Lindsey WAY, since that's how she refers to herself?) probably also had something to do with naming their child. And second, like that was the reason? To get attention? WRONG.

Ugh whatever. It's probably silly to be so offended on the Ways' behalf about this, but the judginess of baby name bashing always irks me.

total agreement. The naming of his kid BACKFIRED? what does that even MEAN? And yes, hi, hello, her name is Lindsey, something tells me they made the decision together, and why is it anybody's business wtf they named their kid?

also, I think the name is ADORABLE and sort of perfect.

Petal Blossom Rainbow is only third on the list????!! Bandit kicks Petal's ass.

I know right? Bandit will at some point in the kid's life be cool. Petal Blossom Rainbow is going to be worth hysterical laughter that poor kid's whole life. (unless she is a hippy. then I guess it is okay.)

BOB IS A FINE NAME! >:(

[identity profile] thebiologicshow.livejournal.com 2009-11-30 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, really? We still can't just accept that it's their decision and they're happy and that's all that should count?

I'll agree that Petal Blossom Rainbow is pretty terrible but a list like this shouldn't even exist. Just let them be happy parents, come on.

Charlie Sheen was lambasted? Really? That seems a little strong. I doubt people were actually thrashing or berating him for naming one of his twins Bob. (The other is Max, which is apparently a far more acceptable name.)

This article makes me want to call my firstborn Bandit Petal Dexter Sparrow Bob. >:(

Sparrow & Bandit. That'd be one kickass of a union, ha.

In fact, I'm gonna go and start a gang by that name. And we're gonna tear up the streets, motherfuckers.

[identity profile] monvenin.livejournal.com 2009-11-30 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd join that gang. We can all go by terrible celebrity name pseudonyms, you can be Moon Unit, I'll be Zowie Bowie. I think we'll need capes too, just for dramatic effect.

Dear celebrities:

Do not name your children anything unusual like Bandit or Sparrow. Also, do not name your children anything normal like Bob. In fact, do not name your children at all**, because the name will suck by virtue of the fact that you are a celebrity and we are all scrutinizing and judging your naming choices to a really pathetic degree and you cannot win.

** Just snap your fingers at them when you want their attention. Or say "hey you." Or "heel." It works for dogs, right?

[identity profile] nev-longbottom.livejournal.com 2009-11-30 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie, it grew on me. Mostly because of the BMW aspect of his initials, and the shortening of his name to Bx.

Bronx, Petal, Bandit and Sparrow should at the very least form some sort of secret society.

I'm not feelin' Bandit either, but come on. Nothing backfired; it's the name of his child. I don't even get what they're implying. That he did it for attention? lol no

and I'm pretty sure PETAL BLOSSOM RAINBOW is worse than Bandit

/defensive

You only have to respect someone's right to have an opinion. Not the actual opinion. Don't like what the magazine is saying? Ignore it. Don't like that a couple have used their personal choice to name their kid Bandit? Don't pay attention to it.

Sheesh.

[identity profile] heartsdesire456.livejournal.com 2009-11-30 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I dont think its right to say anybody's 'backfired' at naming their child. It's just like telling someone their kid is ugly... you dont do that.

To be honest, yeah, i LIKE the name Bandit, but i dont think it was a great decision... but does it MATTER what i think? no! I just think it's too... unfair to name your kid something wierd, because what are the chances she WONT get picked on my other kids? I mean, some kids are kickass and dont care, and thats GREAT... but some kids get really hurt over stuff like that.

And professionally, people DO discriminate on names, its a fact....

BUT, its still wrong to do an article on it, because the only people who's opinion matters is the children's families.

Sparrow sucks and is a bad decision, same for the hippy name... BUT even though i'm stating my opinion here, it doesnt MATTER what i think. And i'd sure as hell never TELL anybody they 'failed' at naming their baby.

And just like Bandit being a kick-ass name, i think Bronx Mowgli Wentz(someone mentioned it above) is a cool name.... but i do think it was a bad decision just because your know that kid will get picked on my other kids and most parents DONT think about that before they pick a name for their children.

(or, like Patrick Stump's parents, dont think about the initial FAIL issue with PMS)

HOWEVER, despite my opinions, or anybody's opinions... its not our business really. And if they grow up liking their names, that's great!

I mean, none of my siblings or I have a normal name (its not as bad as those names) and only my brother has gotten picked on for his name so far, but he still did and it really hurt his feelings... so i've SEEN it happen and just hate seeing kinds with really wierd names because i'm scared that'll happen to them.

... and wow, i'm sorry you guys for my long ass rant...

i would go back and edit it all shorter... but i'm now late *posts and runs*

Bandit & Petal are really pretty names, Sparrow is a totally awesome name, and Dexter and Bob are completely normal.

I'm not going to lie I don't really like the name, but whatever. It's not my thing to judge; she can change it when she gets older if she really hates it that much.

However, a conversation with my mother went like the following:

Mom: So how are you?

Me: Okay. Mr. Way had his baby or whatever. He named it Bandit.

Mom: [humming] Oh, how nice, they got a dog.

Me: Woman, were you not listening? .____.

But it's kind of sad when people mistake your kid's name for a dog. But I'm not going to lie either, one of my favorite TV shows as a kid had a main character dog named Bandit and these things do not bode well.
