Glenn Beck calls My Chemical Romance lyrics “propaganda”

by Tim Karan

In today's edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck broadcast, conservative host Beck cites an episode of Glee in which the cast perform "Sing" by My Chemical Romance. Beck calls the show "horrific" and says that the MCR lyrics are propaganda.

The lyrics in question: "Cleaned up corporation progress dying in the process / children that can talk about it living on the railways / people moving sideways / sell it till your last days / buy yourself the motivation / generation nothing / nothing but a dead scene / product of a white dream."

Check out the clip from Beck's show below and let us know if you agree or disagree.

I am so pleased by this. MCR is doing something right when this shithead is complaining about them. Or as Frank says, "Yay!"

Also, Beck's dramatic reading of the lyrics is so fucking hysterical I was crying with laughter.

Well done, MCR! <333

The dramatic reading was the best part, I know! I want him to read the whole lyrics, please. xD

...er. Propaganda for what, exactly, Mr Beck? The only thing they are promoting is their own music, and by Glenn Beck's own conservative capitalist views, that's not a crime.

They are, I suppose, providing critical commentary of giant corporations, which is what I can only suppose he's reacting against, but the very fact he's so hostile indicates to me that such critical commentary is necessary.

Go team MCR! Annoy the shit out of conservative America! \o/

I don't think he gets that the song is meant critically????

This is so WEIRD.

why is this still so funny?

Because Glenn fucking Beck called MCR propaganda?

But what is the propaganda for? He never said it!

Dramatic reading is almost as good as William Shatner's singing. Maybe they should team up for a worldwide tour? Opening for MCR, perhaps? Hahahaha!

I laughed so damn hard while he was reading the lyrics. Seriously, dude? Propaganda for what? He's a complete twat that's so out of his tree that Fox News is letting him go because of his batshittery. I put no credence in anything he says.

[identity profile] mizubyte.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He's leaving the show because he has an eye disease that's worsening more rapidly than projected. He's going blind, he literally can't do the show anymore (apparently).

well. that and I do think even Fox News thinks he's getting too much for them.

/not a GlennBeck fan

What a tool.

LOL. Go MCR!!

If you've been able to get on Glenn Beck's radar then you must be doing something right.

uh ... i can't tell if glen beck likes glee or not. exactly who's side is this man on? (not from the us, fyi)

as for this being propaganda. yes it is. and it works. and it's good.

now if you'd explained propaganda for *what* maybe then we'd have something argue about mister.

[identity profile] fleurdeliser.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Beck is basically attempting to say that Glee and MCR are everything that's wrong with America and that it's so well-done there's no way to combat it and that his side is ~losing. It's pretty hysterical (using MULTIPLE definitions of that word).

i really dont see how this song can be attributed to the break down of americas values when it is actually a social commentary. he obviously missed the rest of the lyrics where the song promotes self reliance and independence and, like, civic involvement, all things which are core american values and would prevent corporations and government like b/ind from dominating society. i mean, if anything what he's saying right now is promoting soft despotism, which is super anti american.

it was super funny though.

I don't even get if the dude thinks it's negative or positive. Propaganda is supposed to be bad, but this guy is all "I LOVE IT" and I just don't get it. If he's trying for sarcasm he's failing really bad.

[identity profile] alpheratz.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think he's being sarcastic and world-weary, except he's too much of a tool to use sarcasm effectively.

First, he didn't even get the lyrics right. It's "webways" not "railways" (whatever that means).

But "propaganda" doesn't have to be a bad thing, and I don't think this Glenn Beck thing was necessarily a bad thing either. He did say he "loved it" when he brought the song up.

[identity profile] fleurdeliser.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, he's saying it's everything wrong with America. He's saying that Glee is terrible and the song is propaganda for the wrong side. The "I love it" is not a positive thing. He's saying that with admiring horror because he thinks the show is really well-done and there's no way for his side to "beat" it.

not even fucking around, i would SO love for people to take this guy LITERALLY & like, 'not get' his sarcasm or whatever & he would get SO pissed off lmao. sorry that's the only thing that was going through my mind when i was watching this haha it would just take the piss out of him, since if you didn't realize he was mocking whatever he talks about, you'd legit think he 'liked' it xP

"THERE IS NO WAY TO BEAT THIS."

...beat what, exactly? I like how he doesn't bother to explicate what, precisely, he finds so offensive/propagandistic in those lyrics. an anthem saying "join us"...to do what? sing?

or is it the fact that it was on Glee that makes him hate it so much?

MR. BECK, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS.

[identity profile] napoleonscream.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
If he explained what precisely he finds so offensive, he'd have to explicitly reveal to the world the fact that he and FOX are Nazis! Racist, sexist, homophobic, fanatical, kill-for-money... But I digress.
