Aw, they're cut for men! They should make women's version. Some of us adult fans are way too curvy for men's clothes.

ridiiiiiic

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of bummed that they're so expensive but look so cheap.

[identity profile] symmetry.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

[identity profile] ichiichiichi.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Same! D: I love Frank's vest, but upon closer inspection, the black back design looks...really crappy.

I'm seeing them a week from Sunday, so hopefully someone there as one so I can see it closer up...

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. Good luck finding someone wearing one! Let us know, too :D That way we can stop this 'they look cheap/no they don't' debate XD

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I saw on tumblr a girl months ago who'd made her own Kobra jacket basically from scratch, custom-fit to her body type. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was a fraction of the cost of these jackets (and it'll probably last her longer).

Also, a friend and I were discussing this: we feel like they'd make mad bank if they sold plain white blasters like you see in NaNaNa at the vending machine. Because then they could mass produce them relatively cheaply, and fans could paint their own custom to how they'd want their own blasters. They could even sell them for a decent price because people would probably buy them in twos, threes, or fours. That's totally something I'd get behind, and I'd need at least three to make sure that if I make a mistake I can try again. (Although I heard the trigger doesn't even move? So, y'know, boo, but whatever, I'd deal.) Granted, sure, one could always buy the NES Zapper on e-bay and mod it themselves, but still XD

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be a great idea. Or canvas jackets with just a logo patch that you could paint on.

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That would also be really cool. So many MCR fans are so creative (Ray said so himself in his latest blog post!), you'd think they'd try to encourage that while capitalizing on it.

[identity profile] rosesablaze.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I like Jet's/Ray's the best I think.

[identity profile] rosesablaze.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I also love that the back of Fun's/Frank's jacket depicts one of his tattoos. It's a neat touch. :)

[identity profile] rosalui.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed!

[identity profile] rosalui.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
To be completely honest, they're not THAT expensive? Like, I saw a pair of jeans the other day that cost nearly this much. ....Obviously I'd never buy that pair of jeans, but the point still stands. XD

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's relative. They're too expensive for how cheap they look.

[identity profile] patentpending.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely ridiculous and insulting joke of a price aside, it's weird that they didn't take into consideration the cuts and sizes. I have massive tits and round shoulders, there's no way one of those would fit properly anyway.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Adam Lambert was selling a TANK TOP for $50. While I like him, he's not yet at MCR's level. Many, many other artists charge similar prices. Comparatively, $100 is actually quite reasonable. I won't deny that it's a lot of money, but they could charge more and they could get away with it if they chose to.

[identity profile] patentpending.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Just because they can charge such extravagant prices, no matter what their level or status, doesn't make it right. They're already "getting away with it" and have been for some time. I understand that it's the nature of the beast, so to speak, but it's still bs imo.

[identity profile] greenskribbles.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're kinda ugly XD. I mean, Mikey's and Gee's really only look good in leather, Ray's is okay.

I'd rock that vest though. Too bad I don't have 90 dollars to spend on a vest.

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm surprised how bad Gee's looks. The original looked good. Of the replicas, Ray's is the only one I would wear. But I would never be able to get it on because it's cut for boys only!

[identity profile] anna-unfolding.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
From the pictures, they look fine to me. I'd need to see it and feel it to tell the quality, personally. It's possible they'll be cheap, but I can't tell that from the picture. They look awesome to me! And designed by Oscar award winning costumier Colleen Atwood? I'd be surprised if they WEREN'T $100.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like I'm the only person who ISN'T totally surprised by the price? I mean, considering they're custom jackets. Obviously there's going to be a big price difference between that and the company buying a crate of all exactly the same black hoodies or t-shirts and screenprinting something in one or two colors on it. The production cost is going to be higher, so they're going to have to charge more to actually make a profit.

And to the people complaining the material looks cheap, they probably tried to pick a less expensive fabric so more people could afford it. If they used waxed denim/pleather/vinyl/leather like whatever the original jackets are, the cost would probably be double and you'd all still be complaining.

I'm not surprised by the price, I figured they'd be $70-80 or more.

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised by the price, but it still bums me out. Also it sorta seems to me that if you look at the seams you can tell where areas will be most likely to fray (especially since a lot of fans tend to wear their merch near to death, anyway?). I've also heard horror stories about the boxed sets where the bad luck beads lose their finish within a day, and the guns and stands break or come broken (on top of everyone spending as much as they did and then waiting as long as they did). I didn't even buy one and it sort of upsets me. I totally understand wanting to use less expensive/more affordable materials, but I just feel like they could've done better if they're going to charge that much. Idk, that's just my opinion, I'm not trying to sound like I'm complaining or something.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, I'm not surprised/sadenned/angered/outraged or whatever about the price. I also find the comments on the supposed quality of the jackets to be kind of odd. In general, I can't tell the quality of clothes from a picture. I can make a guess? But until I'm tugging on the sleeves, pulling at the hem, feeling the fabric, looking at the inside of the jacket, I can't tell how well it was put together. I'm not getting one so I won't have that opportunity but I can't and won't make a judgment about quality.

The price is about middle of the road, maybe even a bit on the low end. It's a replica jacket and thus has some collector weight to it and the design has a big name attached to it (Colleen Atwood, who recently won an Oscar). The jackets aren't leather or denim and that pushes the cost of production down and the cost of the jackets down as well. So I think they went to the middle and the jackets, visually, look pretty sweet and as close to accurate as they can be without the extra costly embellishments.

IDK, I guess people will have to wait and see what other's say about the quality/fit. Anything else but speculation seems a lot like needless handwringing to me. They're jackets. You're either going to spend the money or not. People who say they can make a replica jacket for cheaper should do that!

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I do admire that you're able to look at it that way, Anon. I'm not going to be buying one either, so ultimately the price or quality makes absolutely no difference to me. I've always just had a hard time with not speculating, and especially with not being affected by my own speculation. I agree with you: regardless of our opinions, we're going to have to wait and find out the details from those that purchase them.

[identity profile] crossbow1.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not even sure what they mean by "custom" jackets. The site doesn't say where they were made or by whom, which usually means "mass-produced in China." But I'm not "surprised" by the price. I think most band merch is overpriced, and those stupid photos Frank took with the wrong light setting would be too much at any price.

[identity profile] beardsilike.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Really the price doesn't surprise me. I think if i was to buy one it would be Jet Star's because I have Red hair and Kobra kids would be way to much, Party poison's isn't really cool looking, I'm never going to pay 90$ for a vest so...
My mom even wanted one of Ray's I was like ....Really?
Haha.
But my luck they only go up to XL and i need atleast a 2XL to get one.
These moment i hate being fat. \:

[identity profile] lea-ndra.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
my 2 cents - I had to produce custom made t-shirts recently, designed by an artist - several designs, limited edition. we're selling them at zero profit and there still ridiculously expensive. Actually, I find the jackets not that expensive.

[identity profile] lobsterclaaaws.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That is definitely one way to put it into perspective. Idk I'm not exactly surprised by the price, and they probably are trying to turn at least some profit on this (I'd be surprised if they weren't, anyway), so in that regard it makes sense. It's just that based on the photos, they appear a little cheaply made? And I know that 1. looks can be deceiving, and 2. you can't tell item quality from a photo, but it's just the impression I've gotten. I'm not exactly a pro, though XD I could be completely mistaken (and in this case would happily be so).

[identity profile] symmetry.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think the main problem I have with these is were the even a demand for these jackets? It's something that's only going to properly fit a small group of fans anyway (and considering most of the fanbase is female I can't imagine these jackets were made with that in mind). Gerard had been talking about a new set of action figures and collectible glasses, get started on that instead.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-27 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is it an either/or thing? They can do all the merch they feel like it and a lot of people wanted jackets so here they are. Perhaps other things will come later.

[identity profile] theletterelle.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh. I think it's better to create your own. I'd rather have something that's all mine than something that's a copy of someone else's.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
No matter what the band does these days, all most people seem to want to do is complain. Do people have nothing better to do? Does NOTHING satisfy them? The band could probably sell beautifully made jackets for $20 and people would STILL find something to bitch about. Holy fan entitlement. :/
