My Chemical Romance Talk New Album, 'Jersey Shore,' and Coming in Second to Miley Cyrus
In this time of frenetic, synthesized pop, America’s great rock hope has to be My Chemical Romance, whose new album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, was released on Monday, November 22. Formed in 2001, the New Jersey-based four-piece broke big in 2004 with the album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and its anthemic single "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," which was delivered by frontman Gerard Way in his trademark, hyperphonic singing style.

Back From The Black: My Chemical Romance Discuss Their Return
In 2006, My Chemical Romance released their darkly ambitious concept album, The Black Parade, and thus became the self-proclaimed (as well as fanbase-proclaimed) saviors of rock 'n' roll and life as we knew it. And then...they just went away. Four years later, no new MCR music was forthcoming (other than a 2009 Bob Dylan cover on the Watchmen soundtrack)...and loyal followers began to fret as breakup rumors swirled, longtime drummer Bob Bryar departed the group in the middle of recording Parade's follow-up, and MCR were unjustly accused of being a negative influence on impressionable young listeners. For a while, it actually seemed like MCR would never, ever return from the blackness. Was it possible that they wouldn't save the world after all? Where were My Chemical Romance when we needed them most?

My Chemical Romance turns the page with 'Danger Days'
The band emerges from a dark period (including a scrapped record) with a danceable album inspired by frontman Gerard Way's comic-book ideas.
By Geoff Boucher, Los Angeles Times

High in his ridgeline home, sitting on a porch that feels like a ledge, Gerard Way peered through cigarette smoke and the late-afternoon Pasadena haze as he searched his memory for the moment when his band, My Chemical Romance, shed its skin. "I think," he said with a world-weary chuckle, "the liberating moment is when we decided that we were allowed to make a dance record."

My Chemical Romance, 'Sing' -- New Video and Exclusive Photos
The guys from My Chemical Romance are continuing their colorful, 'Mad Max'-inspired battle in their latest video for 'Sing.'

The first installment of this trend appeared in the band's video for 'Na Na Na,' in which the members of MCR and a young boy take part in laser duels and car chases throughout a barren wasteland. This time around, the punk rockers and their warriors-in-training are fighting against masked villains in a city.

"Our video for 'Sing' picks up where the 'Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)' video left off," singer Gerard Way tells Spinner. "We can't wait for you all to see the next visual installment of our album 'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.'"

Check out the video for 'Sing' below as well as exclusive photos from the shoot.

Review – My Chemical Romance: Danger Days
My Chemical Romance’s latest effort isn’t so much an album release as a well orchestrated apocalyptic art event. With the advent of listening parties the band last night offered fans worldwide an exclusive preview of the album as hosted by the elusive Dr. Death Defying.

Apparently this is the bands departure from concept albums, but you tell me, fans are ‘killjoys’, areas are ‘zones’, enemies are ‘draculoids.’ Now personally I don’t care about this, they are great at what they do and this whole new world is utterly engrossing, so why change? Though this is still a concept album, it’s a massive leap from their previous sound with everything bright, poppy, and dripping electro from its very core.

Within the first three songs two singles are showcased. The world has already heard ‘Na Na Na’ and is undoubtedly sick of having it infused in their brains, but ‘Sing’ is relatively new and I’m sure it will sneak its way into the charts. Structured like a 30 Seconds To Mars song it seems a bit too epic for such an early place on the album, but it does have some more traditional My Chem breakdowns thrown in.

My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: A Cheat Sheet
Band went through a lot of changes while making the just-released album.
By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is, on the surface, yet another concept album from a band that seemingly makes nothing but concept albums. It's a daring, DayGlo-addled story about a band of outlaws — that would be, of course, the titular Killjoys — battling an oppressive corporation in a postapocalyptic future world (or something like that).

But if you dig a little deeper, past the costumes and car chases and down to the nuts and bolts of how it came to be, you quickly learn that Danger Days is a lot more than just a work of fiction. Its creation was, in all honesty, much stranger than anything frontman Gerard Way ever could have written.

My Chemical Romance Talks "Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys," The Who and Ridley
My Chemical Romance lock and load Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys with some of the most haunting, yet hopeful music of their career.

The band—Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Mikey Way and Ray Toro—crafted an incendiary, infectious and inimitable post-apocalyptic tale that's as memorable as any classic album or film, for that matter. The record has got a lot in common with Blade Runner, in terms of posing all kinds of big philosophical questions about what it means to be human. At the same time, there's an elegant heaviness to every aspect of Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys which instantly evokes The Who's Quadrophenia. In essence, it's one of those perfect rock albums that come along so rarely and have the power to alter the course of pop culture forever. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the album of the year, welcome to Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys.

My Chemical Romance sat down with ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino for an exclusive interview about Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. The band discusses hearkening back to The Who, which director would be perfect to helm the My Chemical Romance movie, some favorite lines on the record and so much more.

Part XI - XXV of the Coup de Main Interview
Tarantino, Art Is The Weapon, and Dr. Death Defying...

GERARD WAY: And I think I realized: wow, I'm in a band with my best friends in the world and they're all super fucking smart and they're all super artistic. Let's use that. Let's make this record about the art. Like, let's make art a weapon and like, we really do that, you know? So that's something I want to say about the album.

FRANK IERO: I totally agree.

MIKEY WAY: Yeah. We all have like hidden talents. Like Frank, he's an amazing photographer.
