I'm fucking stoked.
August 28, 2014

Starting up tracking again after a few days off. I feel the pulsating energy in the air. Firing off like a billion electrons. Sparks and atoms cascading upon each other in an electric waltz.

I'm fucking stoked.

Frank Interview
“I wanted to give these songs their due”—Frank Iero chats with his vocal coach Deborah “Zuke” Smith
August 26, 2014 by Cassie Whitt

Prior to taking on the role of lead singer of Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration, Frank Iero says voice was something he'd only dabbled in, which is why it made sense for him to seek out his vocal coach Deborah "Zuke" Smith.

The Lonely Tree
August 26, 2014

Waiting for a drop to drink.
Arms are falling bare.
Drying up inside this shell
With no one left to care.

Chipping at my hardened skin
The dirt scrapes at my knees.

Life can be a bitter thing
When no one cares for me.

Always wondered what it's like
To live outside these walls.
Birds and bees and pretty wings
Sing songs to wake them all.

Colors green, wish I could see
The long and grassy plain.
Blades between my gnarled feet
Feel soft and cool like rain.

Sail across forever sea
In trails of blue and white.
Yellow, red, and orange too.
My eyes weep at the sight.

To the sky, my heart takes flight
Aloft on mountain breeze.
Tiny brushes paint the hills
with pine and evergreen.

But here I stand
amongst the stone
and gravelly debris.

Life can be a bitter thing
When no one cares for me.

Rolling Stone Interviews Gerard
Inside Gerard Way's Crusade to Change American Music
"The main objective was to change the landscape of music a bit. To re-boot Britpop in America"
BY JAMES MONTGOMERY | August 20, 2014

When he was fronting My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way was the driving force behind high-minded (and color-coordinated) concept albums like The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. But in the four years since the group's last proper record, Way lost his band, his patience with the industry and his desire to do rock & roll on a grand scale.

Former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way will release his debut solo album, entitled Hesitant Alien, on September 30th via Warner Bros. Records. The new album will be available for pre-order at all digital retailers beginning Tuesday, August 19th. Exclusive album bundles will also be available for pre-order on GerardWay.com on the same date. Fans who pre-order the album will receive the track “No Shows” instantly as a free download. The music video for “No Shows” will also be released on August 19th. Please see below for the full track-listing.

Working with producer Doug McKean, Way knew immediately what he wanted Hesitant Alien to sound like. “I wanted to make the small things sound big,” he says. “My intention was to make 100 percent uncompromised art, using the currently least radio-friendly instrument, the guitar. I knew there would be lots of fuzz pedals. I knew I would play Fender instruments. I knew I would look at who my guitar heroes were in art school, Mary Timony and Carrie Brownstein, and I drew a lot of influence from shoe-gaze and Britpop. I want the record to sonically galvanize people.” Hesitant Alien was mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys).

Lyrically, Way wrote about what he knew at the time, “which was struggle, beginnings, finding a newness in the mundane and the abstract,” he says. “I looked to the Britpop poets like Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn, drawing upon every day life. I also experimented with the abstract, and looked at Frank Black’s work both with the Pixies, and as a solo artist. There was no concept and no call-to-arms.

Fans will get their first listen to some of the songs on Hesitant Alien when Way performs his first solo shows at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in England. He will perform at Reading on August 22nd and at Leeds on August 23rd.

The Zine - 7/29/14

One of the things I learned over the years is that projects grow and change, and you need to be prepared to change with them, providing a new structure for them to stand on.

About 4 months ago, one of the ideas kicking around was a special edition version of Hesitant Alien, and like usual- it was ambitious (maybe a little overly so) and elaborate. Lola played a key element in it, but as time went on and deadlines loomed, the complex nature of the boxed set required more lead-time than we had. And I would rather get my music out there than wait around for factories to turn around art-objects. I also felt that, for this particular album, since I had already done so many things differently than in MCR, I would also handle the launch differently.

Easy peasy pumpkin peasy.

Epiphone Interview With Frank
Running Wild With Frank Iero: Frank romances a new groove

Over the past three years, Epiphone.com has had a running conversation with Frank Iero, inventor of the Phant-o-matic Wilshire and co-lead guitarist with pop sensation My Chemical Romance. When MCR broke up in early 2013, Frank granted us one of his first interviews and we've been along for the ride as he stepped back, re-grouped, and began making music again. Frank popped in to see us during NAMM and offered Epiphone and many of our friends around the world a sneak peak at his new album Stomachaches. And of course, we sat down with Frank before the show to talk shop about guitars and the mysterious ways of the music muse.
